TRADING IN AN ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND ECOLOGICAL WAY
This is what ZMI stand for
As a family business, we think in terms of generations. Our actions are fair and binding. Our actions are characterised by transparent, comprehensible and honest dealings. We are committed to national and international initiatives to bring economic success in line with ecological and social responsibility.
We base the recipes for our products on raw materials that are as non-critical as possible. We make sure that all our packaging and production processes are checked with regard to prevent, reduce, improve and utilise. New products are developed on the premise of meeting as many sustainability parameters as possible!
SUSTAINABILITY ISSUES
Less is more
With the reduction of water, electricity and natural gas consumption we can already see a drastic reduction in CO2 at our production facilities. By commissioning an energy-efficient electric scrubber hybrid filter system, the smokehouse exhaust air is cleaned continuously. In addition, all air compressors were replaced and the fluorescent tubes converted to LEDs.
OUR INDUSTRIAL SITES GOES GREEN
Protecting biodiversity
We would love to create a situation in which every employee becomes an advocate for biodiversity. So we decided to build insect hotels and flower meadows in open spaces in all our plants. We take care of our environment and we want to engage employees and local communities in environmental issues.
OUR SOCIAL COMMITMENT OF THE COMPANY
Childcare facility
The KiTa at the company’s main site in Rheda-Wiedenbrück is a public day-care center that is open to the children of employees of the corporate group, but also to all other children in the city’s catchment area. Each group room has several ancillary rooms, including bedrooms and relaxation rooms, a construction room, a learning workshop and a studio. Furthermore, a multi-purpose room, a dining room and two roof terraces.
ECOLOGICAL DRIVING & EFFICIENT LOADING
Efficient logistics
The logistics are managed centrally at the zur Mühlen Group. This ensures that the right goods arrive at the right place at the right time. One priority is to minimize traffic on the roads and to keep the effect on the environment to a minimum. The tour and route planning is continually checked. As a result, it has been possible to reduce the number of empty tours by 25% over the past two years. The vehicle pool at the zur Mühlen Group is continuously modernized.

SUPPORT FOR A GOOD CAUSE
CHILDREN’S DREAMS CAMPAIGN
ZMI supports the association Aktion Kinderträume (German for “children’s dreams campaign“) with the aim of helping children, young people and their families in need. For years, the association has been fulfilling special wishes and dreams of seriously ill and severely disabled children. The association Aktion Kindertäume works closely with the Federal Association of Children’s Hospice. We would like to give the children something unforgettable, make the time together with their relatives easier and a little more beautiful.
FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
2030 Agenda
In the ‘2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’, the United Nations agreed on 17 goals and 169 targets. These Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been signed off by 193 countries. As a global market player, our aspiration is to be at the forefront with regard to realisation of these goals and to make an active contribution to their implementation.
With the 2030 agenda, the Zur Mühlen Group has set itself specific corporate sustainability goals for the next decade. We divide these goals into three groups:
• Towards real cycles in pig and cattle farming
• Strengthening social cohesion in rural areas
• The greatest possible protection of resources in our production facilities, packaging and logistics
